New Project: Teaser

Hello!

I've come to terms with the fact that it's probably just me that reads this but thats! o! kay!

I started this to help me with my writing and that's what I'm going to do.

So, I'm known to constantly abandon (or put aside) old projects and start new ones. That's how I have so many unfinished stories or just first drafts.
This "new project" however isn't actually a new project at all! Well...kinda. It's a mix.

I have a superhero/action novel that I've been working on for roughly 7 years now. I have a first draft, but when I went back to edit and rewrite, I noticed something. I wasn't satisfied with the story's platform. Don't get me wrong, it read well as a novel, but something else was needed.

That's when I discovered Webtoon. A comic app with a bunch of original content. Authors upload chapters (or semi-chapters) on their own schedule and gathered a reader following.

A thought was planted in my head. What if my novel was a comic book?
Genius!
Only problem is...I can't draw. At all. Cue sad music.

This morning as I was talking to my sister, she told me that she was getting back into drawing.
Huzzah! I thought. And sure enough, we brainstormed the whole morning about what could be a new Webtoon.

The story I'm referring to is The Black Morphi. If you know me, you probably know this story. I started it when I was 15 and it is my Ol' Faithful.

I'll keep you all updated on the process of rewriting Black Morphi into a script, but for now here's an excerpt from the novel version:

****

“Perhaps, it would have been wise to use more caution, Black Morphi,”
“No duh, Jeeves!” I grunted, swinging a punch at a robber, and quickly ducking under the punch from another. A well-aimed kick sent a third one flying into the wall. I didn’t have time to see if he was unconscious, because I had to leap back as knife was swiped at me. The second robber punched at me again, aiming for my throat, but because I had twisted and leapt, it caught me in my side instead. I fell to the ground, swiping my leg out as I fell, catching the second attacker unawares, and he also crashed to the ground.
Curses! That first one has a knife. Not that that’s annoying or anything. And their punches...they feel...different.
Morphing my hands into the claws of a panther, I swiped back, raking claws across his arm. We both swore loudly. I’m not entirely sure why the robber swore, but my claws hurt horribly. They didn’t even look like they had dented the robber’s skin.
“What are you?” I asked quietly.
“It is a gift from the Kraken,” the robber answered, kicking out, and catching me in the ribs. I hit the floor with a loud thunk, and groaned.
“Jeeves?” I called, while picking myself up.
            “Yes, Black Morphi?”
“Next time I go into a fight, remind me to morph my skin into metal…”
            “Of course, Black Morphi.”
There were only two robbers left. The third one had indeed been knocked out. They slowly walked towards me, as I stood still. This was their mistake, because it gave me time to think. I reved up my glasses that I had made, and Jeeves scanned their bodies.
“It appears they have crocodile skin, Morphi.”
“And what would cut through that? How do I stop them?”
“I would suggest a hippopotamus, Morphi.”
The robbers got closer, as I scrambled for more ideas.
“A hippo!” I whisper shouted, “Jeeves, I refuse to morph into a hippo. Anything else?”
“As these are man-crocodiles, a Bengal tiger may be of use.”
“That’s more like it!” I shouted, this time very loudly, startling the convicts. I backed up to the end of the wall, and started running toward them, beginning my transformation. My hands were the first thing to transform, turning into huge white paws, my claws glistening in the dark. The transformation continued up my arms, and down to my torso, turning my human body into beautiful white fur with black stripes. My head went next, my nose, mouth, and chin enlarging, my ears rising on my head. Within seconds all that was left to transform was my legs.
Because I have a flair for the dramatic, I leapt into the air right when my legs transformed, roaring at the robbers. I landed on the robber who had had the knife. I pounced off quickly and batted him away with a paw. He crashed into the opposite wall and slumped to the ground.
I swung around to meet the other attacker, who was backing away slowly. I stalked toward him, snarling quietly. Because all the robbers wore hoods and masks, I could not see his face clearly, but his beady black eyes were alight with fear. If a tiger could smirk, I’m sure I would’ve, because all it took was a lunge forward and the robber threw up his hands. I took him in my jaws, careful not to pierce his skin too much, and shook him like a wet rag. I dropped him abruptly back on the cement ground, and he was knocked unconscious.
I transformed back into my human self and laughed.
“Much better than a hippo, eh, Jeeves?”
“Elegant as usual, Black Morphi. I have alerted the policemen to your location,” Jeeves replied as I bound the criminals.
“As always Jeeves, you are too kind. And good job alerting the police. Maybe warn them to bring their extra-strength laser weapons? These guys probably wouldn’t be hurt by anything less.”
            “Will do, Morphi.”
Out of curiosity, I pulled back the hood from one of the unconscious robbers. I was startled with what I saw.
“A gift from the Kraken, he said…” I commented.
            “Excuse me, Morphi?”
“His crocodile skin was a gift from the Kraken. But that’s not all he gifted him with...this man has a crocodile snout...and if I’m not mistaken…” I trailed off looking at the others. “They all do…”
“A gift from the Kraken indeed, Morphi.” Jeeves answered.
“What exactly is this Kraken up to?” I wondered as I flew away.

Until next time!
